However, before taking your walk, if you arrive by car, you must leave it in one of the city’s car parks. There are many car parks, some at an hourly fee and some free of charge.
Among the most important are: the car park at Piazza Matteotti near to the Cattedrale di San Rufino (Cathedral of Saint Rufus), the car park at San Damiano (Saint Damien), which is free of charge, in front of the church of the same name and that of Porta Nuova, near the Basilica of Santa Chiara (Basilica of Saint Clare).

FESTIVALS AND VILLAGE FETES
There are many festivals and village fetes throughout the year, but especially in summer, which always welcome many people.
One of the most famous is the Festa della Cipolla (Onion Festival), which takes place in Cannara every September. Cannara is a village 15 km from Assisi, which is famous for its cultivation of various types of onion. Many people are attracted here every year and a winter version also takes place in December.
An event close the heart of all people from Assisi is Calendimaggio di Assisi, which derives from the celebrations of the Umbrians to welcome spring. It takes place in the first few days of May in both the afternoons and evenings.
Just a little bit further away from Assisi is Perugia, where Umbria Jazztakes place in July. This is the famous festival, which since 1973 has jazz music as its protagonist. There are many concerts by Italian and foreign musicians in the crowded city centre every evening; an appointment that cannot be missed if you are nearby.
DISCOS AND CLUBS
If, instead, you like to dance and stay out in the disco until the early hours, you will definitely find the right place in Assisi and the surrounding area.
In Rivotorto di Assisi you will find Poco Loco, an informal club that serves cocktails and has a DJ and live music. Country Cafè, in Bastia Umbra, open in the summer and winter, with DJs and show business personality guests, while, for lovers of electronic music there is Serendipity in Foligno.
VISITING NEIGHBOURING PLACES
If you like to explore new things to visit and do even by night, you can visit places near to Assisi.
Perugia is not even 30 kilometres from Assisi. Since it is a university city, the historical centre is full of people all year long, even in the evening. You can walk up and down Corso Vannucci and stop for a drink in one of the many bars in the centre.
Spello, at the foot of Mount Subasio, is most well-known for its infiorate, which take place every year during Corpus Christi. The town is a little gem and can be reached in 15 minutes by car from Assisi; it is a place worth visiting by day and night.
The third city of Umbria, or rather Foligno, is just a few kilometres from Spello. A city on the plain, it is easy to visit on foot or by bike. You can walk around the centre and admire the beautiful Piazza della Repubblica and maybe stop for a drink in one of the many bars in Via Antonio Gramsci.
