Children are always fascinated by the illuminations that light up and colour the squares and streets and cannot wait to meet Santa Claus and deliver their letters. Adults also seem to go back to their childhood when they walk through the streets and admire the beauty of Christmas in Assisi.

Christmas events in Assisi 2018

This Christmas, as in previous years, there will be many special events that will light up the holidays of anyone coming to the city. The calendar is full of events that cannot be missed.

From 1^st Decembre the city will be embellished with thousands of coloured lights, while in Piazza del Comune the more than eighty plants that form the ”Tree of all Trees” will be illuminated and decorated. A truly original initiative that foresees the eighty trees being re-planted after the holidays.
There is also the free Christmas train, which rides through the historic city centre, accompanying parents and children around Assisi.

From 8^th December, it will be possible to visit the House of Santa Claus; the most magical place par excellence, where all children will be welcomed by Santa Claus himself and his elves.

The nativity scenes will be present, as every year during the Christmas period. Highly anticipated are the “Mostra dei Presepi della Terra Santa” (Exhibition of the Nativity Scenes from the Holy Land), the “Mostra dei Presepi artistici” (Exhibition of Artistic Nativity Scenes), the “Presepe Artistico Napoletano del ‘700” (the Neapolitan Artistic Nativity Scenes of the 18th century) and the “Mostra d’arte presepiale” (Exhibition of Nativity Scene art), which will embellish the entire historical centre.
But it doesn’t end here: Assisi will come to life thanks to the Live Nativity Scenes of San Gregorio, Armenzano and Petrignano, while many nativity scenes created by the local people and associations will decorate every part of the mediaeval city centre.

Another reason to celebrate Christmas in Assisi is to admire the projections that will illuminate and colour the buildings in the City of Saint Francis; video mapping. Thanks to technology, young and old can watch beautiful and exciting images flow over the façades of historic buildings.

Culture and spirituality: Christmas in Assisi

As well as events and Nativity Scenes, Christmas 2018 in the city of Saint Francis will also obviously be characterised by spirituality and culture.

The municipal library and art gallery, the Roman Forum and the archaeological museum will organise games and encounters regarding art, while there will be many gospel, mediaeval and renaissance music concerts taking place throughout the Christmas period.
